Programs & ServicesYouth & Family CounselingProfessional registered or licensed counselors provide individual, family, and group counseling at our agency and in clients' homes to meet the needs of children (3-19 years old) and their families. AYR counselors are skilled in helping children and families feel comfortable with the counseling process. Common problems addressed include family conflict, suicide, depression, anger and impulse control, teen pregnancy, sexual and physical abuse, school problems, court-referred counseling, and communication problems. Residential Emergency ShelterShort-term, temporary housing is provided to youth ages 10-17 in the South King County Youth Shelter (SKYS). The goal of placement is to stabilize the youth in crisis and facilitate the return of the youth to his/her family. In situations where returning home is not an option, the goal of placement will be to stabilize, evaluate and make recommendations for appropriate alternative living situations. For young men ages 15-19, transitional living is available at Severson House, a seven-bed community style home. The goal of placement is to stabilize the young adult's living situation while assisting him in achieving successful independent living. In addition to housing, the Shelter and Transitional Living Programs provide individual, family, and group counseling; employment assistance; drug and alcohol counseling; structured skills training; high school or GED completion services; AIDS education; medical and dental care recreation referrals; advocacy; referral and access to all other AYR services.
