Scattered Site Housing

AYR has teamed with Valley Cities Counseling & Consultation (VCCC) and  Kent Youth & Family Services (KYFS) to launch the Coming Up Scattered Site Housing Program.  The program provides 15 housing units for homeless young adults up to the age of 24. Coming Up is the only program in South King County dedicated to providing permanent housing services to homeless young adults. The unique collaboration combines the AYR Homeless Street Outreach Program, VCCC’s housing services and KYFS’ mental health and substance abuse counseling services.

Since the inception of the program in May, the Coming Up program has housed 8 young adults. This includes one single mother, one pregnant woman and a homeless young couple. If not for the Coming Up program these young people may very well be living in their cars or on the streets. Katalin Hausback, the AYR Homeless Outreach Coordinator, believes the program is an essential tool in getting these young people off of the streets and into safe and stable housing.  “The program targets young people who don’t qualify for any other housing programs. Many of these young people have histories of bad credit, mental health problems, substance abuse, criminal histories and prostitution.  Because of this they are typically denied housing services by traditional housing programs.”

The only requirements to be accepted into the program is that the young person (18-24) does not have a stable place to stay, wants to live in South King County and does not have a criminal history of producing methamphetamines or as a sex offender. Participants are given the option to participate in case management services, wraparound services, mental health services, and substance abuse services. These services help the residents build resiliency and stability in their lives and remain off of the streets.
